How to install a Star TSP100IIIBi Bluetooth Printer on Windows using the futurePRNT Driver and Configuration Utility.

Supported Environments: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7
Before you begin
Important! New installations require four steps:
1) Install the futurePRNT driver
2) Pair the Bluetooth to Windows and
3) Add the printer to Windows.
4) Adjust Printer Settings. These four separate steps are explained below.
Note: If you have already installed the driver, skip to Step #2.
Important! When pairing with Windows, the printer’s Auto-Connection feature should be set to OFF. If your self-test shows it is ON, follow the below application note to turn it OFF. How to Turn Auto Connection ON or OFF on Bluetooth Printers
Note: These instructions were written using Windows 11. If you are using an earlier version of Windows some steps may differ.
1. Install the futurePRNT Driver
The most current version of the futurePRNT driver can be found HERE
1. Click Download on either the Full or EXE version. Select I Agree and click Download
Note: The Full driver download includes the printer/software manuals while the EXE version does not. For this application note, the Full version is used.
2. Locate the downloaded zip folder (commonly located in the Downloads folder) Right-click on the zip folder and select Extract All….
Note: If the EXE file was downloaded, simply double-click the application to start the installation process and skip to Step 6
3. Open the newly extracted folder and open the Setup folder
4. Open the Setup execution file
5. Allow the app to make changes to your device and click Next
6. Select I Accept and click Next
7. Select Typical and click Next
8. Click Install
9. The installer completes the installation
Note: You may receive a prompt during installation, examples below. Click Yes and/or OK. This will not affect the installation process
10. Click Finish
Congratulations! You have successfully installed the futurePRNT driver on Windows.
2. Pair the Bluetooth to Windows
1. Determine the printer’s Bluetooth Name. This can be found on the printer’s self-test. Use the steps in the following article to do so.
How to Perform a Hardware Self-Test on Star Printers
Note: The printer is automatically in pairing mode when it is turned on.
2. Click the Windows/Start Menu icon and open Bluetooth and other devices settings
3. Select Add device
4. Select Bluetooth
5. Select the printer when it appears start pairing
6. The Bluetooth device will begin connecting and then display that it is paired
Note: The Bluetooth connection will display “Driver Unavailable” once paired, this is normal and does not impact printing.
Congratulations! You have successfully paired the TSP100IIIBi printer to Windows.
3. Add the Printer to Windows
1. Click the Windows/Start Menu icon > Search for and open LAN & Bluetooth Setup Tool
2. Let the Utility Tool search for the printer
3. Once the printer is discovered, highlight it and click Printer Queue
Note: If you have more than one Bluetooth printer listed, identify the correct one using the Model Description (Bluetooth Name).
4. Select Print Test Page and click Apply
NOTE: You can add to or RENAME the Printer Queue here or later (e.g., Star TSP 143IIIBl USE THIS ONE)
5. Click Apply
6. A Windows test page will print confirming that the printer was successfully installed. You can choose to access the TSP100 Configuration Utility, otherwise click No and exit the Setup Tool
7. To confirm the printer was added to the list of Devices and Printers, click the Windows/Start Menu icon and open Settings
8. Click Bluetooth & devices and select Printers & scanners
9. The printer will now display under the list of Printers.
Note: The Bluetooth connection will appear as a printer within the same list with the message “Driver is unavailable”. While there is not a way to remove it, there is a way to rename it to lessen confusion. Right-click on the device and select “Properties”. In the Bluetooth tab it can be renamed.
4. Adjust Receipt and Cash Drawer Settings
Click to select the Star Printer Queue you created
Select Printing Preferences
Click Advanced
Under the Paper/Output section,
Paper Size drop down menu, select 72mm x Receipt
Click Ok
Once again, click Ok
Upon returning to your printer options, select Printer Properties
Click the Advanced Tab
Click Printing Defaults from the bottom left corner of the screen
Click Advanced button from the bottom right corner of the screen
From the Paper Size drop down menu, Click 72mm x Receipt
Click Ok
Click Ok again
You will be brought back to the screen where you selected the Advanced Tab from step 8.
Click Device Settings tab
Under the Form to Tray Assignment section, from the Friction drop down menu, choose 72mm x Receipt
Under Installable Options,
Paper Type: Verify shows Receipt
Page Cut Type: select Partial Cut
Document Cut Type: select Partial Cut
Peripheral Unit Type: select Cash Drawer
Peripheral Unit 1: select Document Top
Peripheral Unit 2: select Document Top
Click Apply
Click OK to complete the setup
