  • Setting up a printer on the MAC may require you to have admin access to the MAC or the main user account for the MAC.

  • Your printer should be loaded with 3 1/8in (80mm) thermal receipt paper. This is the standard size. Note: During setup you will be selecting 72mm in settings, this is ok and intended. Please review the videos and/or the step by step guide below:

First,

  1. Verify printer type:

Look at the label, under the printer, to the top far right of the model type.

What does it read? TSP143III with a U, Bl or W?

  1. TSP143IIIU = USB - *make sure the usb to lightning cable USB is plugged into the back of the printer, as well as the iPad device.

  2. TSP143IIILAN = LAN - *make sure the ethernet cable is plugged into back of the printer, as well as the internet router.

  3. TSP143IIIBl = Bluetooth - *follow the Bluetooth instructions to make sure it is connected to your iPad

  4. TSP143IIIW = Wireless - *make sure your receipt printer is connected and available on your network. [NOT RECOMMENDED]

Next,

  1. In the search field type your printer model; like, TSP100III or MC-Print3

    1. Select your printer to go to the Support Page for that printer

  2. Under the Drivers Tab, Click the DOWNLOAD button that matches your system type: CUPS Driver for macOS for Mac, follow installation instructions once downloaded.

Once you have completed the driver install, follow the instructions below:

1. Click the Apple icon in the menu bar

2. Click System Preferences

3. Click Printers & Scanners

4. From Printers & Scanners, Click the plus [+] icon to add a new printer

5. From the “IP” tab (globe icon), choose the following settings and click on [Add].

Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD

Address: IP address of printer being set (Steps Below)

With the printer powered OFF, press and hold the feed button, then power ON

A piece of paper will print that provides your IP Address,

EXAMPLE:

Queue: Any character string (Leave blank for default queue)

Name: Any character string (The IP address is automatically input by default.)

Print Using: “Select printer software…” Search Star > Find and select Star TSP100 Cutter

6. If the name of the specified printer is added to the printer list, the printer has been added.

This Completes the Ethernet (LAN) printer installation.

Last,

To adjust the printer paper size and settings,

1. Open a new tab/web browser

*Note: If you receive this message: The web interface is currently disabled. Run “cupsctl WebInterface=yes” to enable it. Go to: Finder (Square Smiley Face Icon) > Applications > Select the Utilities folder from the list > Select Terminal > Once open, copy/paste or enter the following: cupsctl WebInterface=yes > hit the enter key. Close the terminal, you should be able to now get to http://localhost:631 or refresh the browser to reload.

3. Click Printers tab

4. Click the hyperlink name of the Star Printer on the list

5. Click Administration from the dropdown menu

6. In the general section for Media Size select 72mm X 2000mm.

7. Click Cut Options > Set both the “Page Cut Type” and the “Document Cut Type” to Partial Cut.

8. Click Set Default Options > Enter credentials to save settings

9. Test Print
