Suspending and Holding A Sale

How to put a sale on hold (suspend).

Written by Britton Hennessy

In the Ricochet POS, all sales can be suspended or held if needed. There is no time limit or capacity to held sales. They can be retrieved whenever. Items on held sales, however, may not be added to other transactions. So if you know you have an item in stock, but it is not pulling up in your inventory search, make sure it's not being stored on a held sale.

Additionally, the Hold feature ensures that items placed on Hold cannot be sold by mistake during the hold period, providing a safeguard to prevent accidental sales. It is also important to note that the Hold feature does not lock the price of an item. When a transaction is retrieved from Hold, the item will ring at its current price, reflecting any changes such as discounts or promotions made during the hold period.

Note that there are two similar hold buttons. The navy button at the bottom left of the POS screen retrieves held sales. The second, located at the bottom right, near the 'Finish' button, is what suspends a new sale.

To suspend or hold a sale:

  1. From the POS screen enter items as normal.

  2. Click the navy "Suspend" button.

  3. The current sale has now been suspended and a new sale is ready to go.

  4. To retrieve the held sale, click the "Hold" button from the POS screen.

  5. Find the sale you would like to retrieve and click the 'Retrieve' icon.

  6. That sale is now retrieved and ready to have more items added, cleared, or finished.

Practical Use Cases

The Hold feature is particularly useful in scenarios where a customer needs additional time to make a decision or when a transaction needs to be paused temporarily. For example, if a customer is finalizing their purchase but needs to step away, placing the transaction on Hold ensures the items remain reserved and ready for completion upon their return.
