If your store offers to buy or trade items brought in by customers you can enable this function from the point of sale screen.

How to activate the Buy-Trade option in the POS

In Ricochet,

  1. Click Preferences

  2. Click Admin

  3. Under Store Details, scroll down to Optional Modules

  4. Toggle ON the Buy Outright/Trade option

  5. Click Save

How to use the Buy-Trade option in the POS

  1. Click Buy-Trade at the top of your POS screen

  2. Add details into the pop-up screen

    Required fields:

    • Product Name

    • Cost - how much you will pay the customer for the item

    • Price - how much you will sell the item for when it hits your floor

    Optional fields:

    • Short Description

    • Category

    • Brand

    • Quantity

    • Variants

  3. Click Add Item

NOTE: The item will be added to the screen and highlighted in red and show the amount added to the price field, but in the negative.

  4. Attach a customer to the sale or click the yellow '+' plus sign to add new

  5. Choose tender type if paying out for the item.

    1. Add another item to the POS if exchanging.

  6. Click Finish.

NOTE:

  • Keep in mind that the cost is accounted for the day of the transaction rather than after the stores' sale of the item. This will appear as Store Purchase Cost in your Sales Summary Report.

  • For straight across trades you may want to uncheck the tax box in the POS to ensure the result is $0.00 (unless your state regulations require tax on exchanges.) Please refer to your individual state tax policies for guidance.

  • If you use item fees, you will want to toggle OFF the item fee on the exchange product to prevent an amount owed on a straight across exchange.

  • Once you add the item to inventory the cost field will be blank. This is because the cost of the item has already been recorded once the sale is completed. Do not add anything to the cost field, because when it sells it will double the cost of the item in the system, throwing off your books.
