Article Summary
Setting up accurate sales tax rates in Ricochet is essential for ensuring your consignment or resale store stays compliant and charges customers correctly at checkout. Within the Ricochet POS system, you can add, manage, and customize tax rates by navigating to Preferences → Admin → Taxes & Policies. Your first tax rate entered will become the default and will automatically apply to new products unless changed manually.
You can input rates using whole numbers (e.g., enter 6.75 for 6.75%) and use the yellow “+” button to add additional rates or the red “x” to remove them. This flexibility allows you to handle multiple tax zones or special cases like tax-exempt clothing under $110 in states like New York.
Be sure to assign the correct tax rate to each item during inventory entry—Ricochet does not apply rates automatically. By configuring tax rates properly, your business can ensure more accurate reporting, smoother checkout experiences, and better alignment with local tax laws.
